ACT NOW! Show solidarity with Wisconsin

Issue date
Solidarity with US unions

We are one campaign

1 April 2011

As part of the TUC's support for the US trade union movement's campaign to defend collective bargaining rights for public sector workers, we are publishing information on the background to the campaign every day in the fortnight before our day of solidarity on Monday 4 April. See all the posts so far at www.tuc.org.uk/wisconsin

Here are some ideas about what you can do on Monday 4 April to show your solidarity with the workers of Wisconsin and wider.

There is now a lot of material on the web about Wisconsin, including the TUC's own USA webpage. At the AFLCIO We Are One website, you can find lots of materials to print off, post on websites, facebook pages, twitter feeds and so on - your own as well as your union's.

For example, you can:

  • Come to the TUC solidarity rally at 6pm on Monday 4 April in Congress House (but you must register today!)
  • change your Facebook and Twitter profile pictures for the day;
  • sign the AFLCIO electronic petition - and encourage friends, work mates and union activists to do the same (if you're based in the UK, select 'Other' from the drop down menu of states, and put UK in the zip code box;
  • print off and stick up the We Are One flier (perhaps blown up to A3) on union notice boards;
  • include a section on Wisconsin in any union meetings being held on the day using the AFLCIO teach-in materials; and
  • send a message of solidarity to your sister union in the USA.
