North East Commission must reflect the 'concerns, ambitions and aspirations' of the whole region, says Northern TUC

Responding to the announcement that the North East Local Enterprise Partnership has established an independent commission to explore how to strengthen the North East economy, Kevin Rowan, Regional Secretary of the Northern TUC said:

'The North East has a good history of working imaginatively and collectively to achieve the best outcomes for the region and we welcome this new development. The establishing of a commission reflects the growing realisation that the government's economic strategy over the first two years has let the north east down and is failing to realise our region's potential. It is important that the Commission casts its net wide enough to hear the concerns, ambitions and aspirations of all aspects of the north east community. This can only strengthen the impact of the Commission in highlighting the key actions government can take to boost our economy in the short term and to build a better future.'
