The TUC and the Paralympics
The TUC backed London's bid to stage the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we are working with the organisers and unions to make the Games a success. We want the Games to set world class standards not just for sporting achievement but also for workplace rights. We also believe we must seize the chance to leave a lasting legacy.
The bigger picture
The 2012 Games will have a big impact on workers across Britain, especially those in London and the other Games venues. There have been lots of discussions about the impact of additional traffic in London; talk too about security, the impact of people wanting to act as volunteers and of course the fact that many people will simply want to take the time to watch the Games.
The TUC believes that it is important that workers representatives are fully involved in all discussions.
The games workforce
The TUC and the London 2012 organisers share an ambition to make participation in the Games the experience of a lifetime, not just for athletes and spectators but for workers too.

Games time problems
If you work for LOCOG or one of the contractors working on the Games and have a problem at work, you should first approach your union rep. In most cases this will be a fellow worker whose contact details you should have been given by the union, either when you joined or when you took up your current job. If you are not able to contact a union rep there are a number of other possible sources of help.
You should first check your own union's website for any advice they have to offer.
The TUC's own WorkSmart website provides on line advice about most workplace issues www.worksmart.org.uk. In addition, the conciliation service Acas is operating a special Games helpline. The number is 08450100 141 and it operates 8am-8pm Monday - Friday. 9am-1pm Saturday. There is also a Games section of the Acas website www.acas.org.uk. Acas also offers general employment law advice on its general helpline number 08457 474747.
The TUC is part of the international Play Fair campaign, whose main aim is to raise labour standards in the sportswear manufacturing industries by focussing on major international sporting occasions such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a result of Play Fair's research in February 2012 LOCOG made a commitment to monitor their supply chains more closely including the provision of training for workers on their employment rights.
