The government have already made several concessions, but the House of Lords were scathing in deliberating the bill, passing a series of moderate but effective amendments that cut off a number of the more partisan and damaging new measures.
We know many Conservative MPs were uneasy about this, with a number speaking out in public, and more revealing concerns behind the scenes. This was something that continued into the Lords, with Conservative Peers joining opposing voices across the House.
Suddenly the government majority of 12 is looking much less solid. We need to make sure that Conservative MPs in particular listen to these sensible ideas, and don't just allow the government to push the bill through unamended.
