Support UNISON members in dispute at London Metropolitan University who are defending jobs and defending education

UNISON members at London Metropolitan University were on strike for a second day, 25 June 2015, opposing management’s proposal to delete 165 posts from the university’s workforce. Such a cut would reportedly be a 10 per cent reduction in staff numbers on top of the previous heavy rounds of redundancies suffered in the last 5 years. The first day of strike action was 4 June, when both UNISON and UCU members were on strike. UNISON members also began action short of strike action 23 June.

SERTUC visited the UNISON rally outside the university’s Holloway Road campus at lunchtime and we expressed our support for UNISON’s struggle against compulsory redundancies, against job losses and service losses, and for meaningful dialogue between management and unions.

The rally was also supported by UCU members at the university and UNISON reps from nearby Branches.
