The Organising Academy and Leading Change have been used to introduce new concepts to the toolbox available to union officers as they address the challenges of building stronger unions in a constantly changing political, economic and industrial environment. As well as via formal training programmes, we do this via workshops, briefings and events for both individual unions and general audiences.

Organising Academy 

In 1998 the TUC launched the Organising Academy as a way of building union capacity to recruit and organise workers into trade unions. The Organising Academy offers accredited training for union organisers, officers and support staff via a partnership with Ruskin College, Oxford. 

Leading Change 

In 2004, the TUC launched its Leading Change programme to provide a development and learning programme tailored to the needs of those in senior leadership positions in unions. Since then, thousands of union officers and organisers have been trained on a range of approaches to organising and campaigning. Leading Change is a non-accredited development programme that runs each year for officers in senior leadership positions and is run in partnership with Birkbeck College and the Harvard University Labor and Worklife Programme.
