Commenting on today’s announcement that Royal College of Midwives chief executive, Cathy Warwick, is to retire this summer, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Cathy has been a fantastic trade union leader – totally dedicated to her members, and the mums and babies they care for. She has lead them with intelligence, inspiration and a massive dose of good old fashioned common sense.

“Under Cathy’s leadership, the Royal College of Midwives joined our TUC family, ensuring that the voices of midwives are united with working people across the UK.

“Cathy is a tremendous trade unionist, feminist, and colleague – I am sad to see her go.”
