The Trade Union Act aims to make it harder for unions to organise and represent members, especially in the public sector. Important concessions have been won but the Act still presents serious challenges to the rights of unions and their members.

As a rep, you can help your union prepare for these challenges.

Who is this interactive guide for?

This guide is for anyone who wants to find out more about the Trade Union Act and the serious challenges to the rights of unions and their members it presents. It will show how you can respond to new rules on picketing, ballots and trade union funding.

How will it help me?

This guide will introduce you to the major changes and show you how you can respond. You'll learn about topics including:

  • new rules for pickets
  • facility time reporting requirements
  • turnout and support thresholds on industrial action ballots

How do I complete it?

All you need is an internet-enabled mobile device (a phone or tablet) or a computer. Do as little or as much as you like each time you log on — your progress will always be saved. Next time you log on just pick up where you left off, this one will take you about 15-30 minutes to complete.
