I’m proud to bring greetings and solidarity from the Northern TUC to the Anti Trump demonstration in Durham.

We welcome massive protests across the whole of Britain today.

We understand Trump’s misogyny, xenophobia and racism threaten to take the world down the path which led in the 1930s to the rise of fascism and the horrors of the Second World War.

Brexit, President Trump, the rise of right-wing populism have all have given racism a new lease of life.

Islamophobia and antisemitism are rife.

The Far Right is on the march.

And Trumps response to the terrible refugee crisis is too often to pull up the drawbridge, build walls and to keep illegal immigrants out of the US. But what he actually did was so much worse, separating children from their parents and locking them up in cages. This man’s crimes against humanity are way too long to list.

He makes me feel sick.

Never have our values – equality; justice; respect – mattered more than they do today.

Black and white, indigenous and migrant, we stand for the dignity of all working people, wherever they come from and whatever the colour of their skin.

We are a movement of, and for, working people of every race, religion and creed.

Antiracism and antifascism are part of our DNA.

Trump is the personification of capitalist greed, a president for the super-rich.

He is rolling out corporation tax breaks, cutting back on health care, threatening basic trade union rights.

We can be certain that economic trade deals with Britain will include access by US corporations to rich pickings from our National Health Service.

We’ve got a message for you Trump - stay away from our NHS and our public services.

On all these grounds,

Trump’s racism, misogyny and Islamophobia, his support of torture, his threat to world peace, and his ultra-right economic policies – he should not be welcome in Britain.

It is outrageous that Theresa May has rolled out the red carpet suggesting a common attitude to the economy.

I am proud to be part of a movement that makes sure he is met with widespread and massive protests to show the prime minister that Trump and his policies are not welcome here and that there should be no trade deal sacrificing workers’ and consumers’ rights, and our public services.
