We’re really excited to offer a new study programme developed in collaboration with the DGB (German federation of Trade Unions) on combatting the far right.

The aim of the trip will be to introduce delegates to the international organising methods of the far right, and to familiarise them with this shared struggle in the German trade union movement.

This opportunity is reserved for young trade unionists only.

The study visit will provide opportunities to discuss combatting the far right with German trade unionists, including workshops on sharing best practices. The visit will also offer the opportunity to learn about the origins of the modern far right movement with visits to the Nazi documentation centre, Jewish museum, and other relevant sites.

Young trade unionists attending this study visit will have an opportunity to develop their organising skills through a Future Leaders programme starting spring 2020.

The visit will take place Monday 20 - Friday 24 January 2020 (travel dates inclusive).

The cost for participating in the optional study visit will be in the region of £450-£700 (for accommodation, travel, food & incidental expenses). Delegates will have to book their own travel and accomodation via their branch. We will issue a recommended travel route and designate a hotel for Berlin. Delegates must stay in that hotel or one no more than 5 minutes walk away to ensure we keep to our tight schedule.

We are able to offer one fully funded place on the Berlin visit to a trade unionist who faces barriers to participating in their union. Applicants with the following protected characteristics will be prioritised: young, woman, BAME, LGBT, disabled. Please indicate this in your application.

Please apply for the study visit via your application for the course.
