TUC writes to Ambassador of The Philippines to stop the anti-terrorism bill

The bill was adopted by the Committees of the Lower House on 29 May to repeal the Human Security Act of 2007. President Duterte, in a bid to expedite the legislation, is expected to sign it in 30 days. If the bill is enacted into a national law and enforced by the Anti-Terrorism Council, the trade union organisations and activists in the Philippines will be under tangible threats of unwarranted arrests and detention, surveillance, investigation, rendition and life sentences for being associated with, organising, or expressing an opinion deemed to be in favour of organisations and activities that fall under the overbroad definition of terrorism.
