Commenting on the new GDP figures published today (Friday), which show that the UK economy grew at just 1.8% last year – the weakest figure for 5 years – TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“2017 saw the lowest UK growth in five years, with working people suffering a big pay hit. The Prime Minister must get the economy moving faster this year.

“We need a Brexit strategy that prioritises jobs and protects frictionless trade, with single market membership on the negotiating table. Investment in infrastructure must get a boost. And workers should be given a real say on how to drive up productivity where they work.”
