About this Role

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the union’s aims by leading and managing the HR service function so that all operational HR activity is delivered effectively in support of the NEU strategic people plan.

They will do this by leading, motivating, developing and supporting the HR services team to work collaboratively, enabling them to support and guide managers to manage people issues effectively, ensuring a pragmatic and best practice approach. Working with the Head of Human Resources and HR support partners, the postholder will be responsible for the delivery of the strategic HR plan to ensure that NEU strategic objectives are achieved.

We are seeking applicants who are full MCIPD qualified HR professionals with solid HR knowledge of HR practices. They must demonstrate strong people and project management skills, good decision-making ability and be able to deliver strategic HR plans in a timely manner, particularly in organisation undergoing change. 

The successful applicant will also need to have good communication and diplomacy skills, including active listening skills and the ability to relate to a range of people maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1035, 7 weeks’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a final salary pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.
