The role: As Head of Trade Union Learning and Development you’ll use your positive attitude, your knowledge of trade union activity and your management skills to develop active members and reps as leaders with the courage and confidence to improve members’ working lives. You will get involved in anything from collaboratively designing and delivering learning programmes to providing strategic support for RCN projects aimed at improving our members’ experience.
We'll look to you to lead the building of the capacity and capability of RCN representatives to maximise the RCN’s offer and impact in the workplace and make use of digital technology and campaigning skills. It's a great way to build on your skills and experience and develop your potential. Every day will be filled with possibilities as you find new ways to manage and support the development of your team. Taking care of our members will be your primary role, but you’ll also see the possibilities that new members can bring.
A key part of what you do will be to suggest innovative approaches to grow and develop our membership, exchanging knowledge and experience with members, reps and relevant colleagues across the whole RCN.
As a member of the Employment Relations leadership team, you’ll influence critical decisions about the RCN’s strategic vision and be confident in managing transformative change programmes. You’ll manage some organisational wide projects whilst influencing stakeholders and building key relationships, while providing supportive management to a team of expert trade union facilitators that allows them to grow and meet their full potential.
The person: As well as exceptional customer service, to join us you’ll need knowledge of nursing from a political policy perspective, employment relations issues and training facilitation. You’ll need people, project and budget management skills and, ideally, a background in a relevant area such as trade unions or membership bodies and experience of campaigning and organising. Whatever your background, you'll be efficient, accurate and show a real customer focus in all you do. The ability to foster strong professional relationships and encourage close collaboration between departments is at the heart of this leadership role.
