About this Role

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

Combining the expertise and experience of both the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Education Union is the largest education union in Europe and the fourth largest union in the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We are an effective and powerful voice – championing everyone who works in education.

We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements.

The successful candidate will support the development, implementation and monitoring of GDPR and applicable data protection legislation compliance within the NEU. They will work closely with the Union’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) to maximise awareness and understanding of data protection legislation, and compliance requirements within the legal framework, and NEU policies, procedures and business processes.

They will need to have in-depth knowledge and recent relevant experience of data protection legislation, and data governance or compliance frameworks, including GDPR and relevant UK data protection administration.

As a strong collaborator and stakeholder-conscious, they will need to be able to produce clear, high quality and accessible written materials on detailed and complex issues for a range of audiences.  For example, support and user documentation; procedural documents; project reports; analysis and evidence-based reports.

We are looking for applicants who can work flexibly as part of a team with good organisational skills, who are able to prioritise, to work under pressure and at times to use their own initiative.  The requirement to maintain awareness of legislation and regulations relevant to the role, for example, data protection is essential.
