About this Role

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

Combining the expertise and experience of both the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Education Union is the largest education union in Europe and the fourth largest union in the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We are an effective and powerful voice – championing everyone who works in education.

We are now seeking to recruit a full time Clerical Administrative Assistant (on a fixed term contract, maternity leave cover which we anticipate will last until Christmas 2018) to join our Eastern Regional Office in Kennett, near Newmarket, Suffolk.

The successful candidate will join a small, busy team dealing with telephone and email enquiries and providing secretarial and administrative support for the professional staff, including a solicitor.

They will also need to have good typing speeds and skills in using a variety of software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, as well as being able to use and maintain office database systems.

The tasks required will include arranging and preparing for a variety of meetings, courses and events, maintaining databases, producing and processing correspondence and statistics and dealing with telephone and email enquiries.

We are looking for applicants who can work flexibly as part of a team with good organisational skills, who are able to prioritise, to work under pressure and at times to use their own initiative.  The ability to deal with telephone calls in a confident and professional manner is essential.
