About this Role

UNISON Cambridgeshire County Branch is recruiting to 2 x part time vacancies for Branch Caseworker/Organisers, both for up to 17.5 hours per week. Post 1 is fixed term for one year and Post 2 is a permanent position. 

Working as a Branch Caseworker and Organiser you will be part of a team of experienced trade unionists. The role will be representing members across all of the sectors in which we have members, from small private sector care homes to large housing associations, as well as our key employer base of Local Government and Schools. You will also be tasked with recruiting new members and helping to grow the Branch lay member structure. Organising within workplaces, by recruiting new activists and supporting them until they are established, will be a key part of the role. As you will be working for a large County Branch, the ability to travel around the whole of th Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area is essential.

You will be joining the Branch at a busy time; the Covid 19 pandemic has highlighted the need for people to join a union, and we are seeing a high level of new joiners. We have been supporting our members with queries relating to furlough, PPE, shielding and Covid secure workplaces; as well as our core work of supporting members with grievances and disciplinary and ill health procedures. You will therefore need to be a hard working and self motivated individual. A high level of employment law knowledge and previous experience representing workers is a major requirement.
