Responding to the announcement today (Monday) by immigration minister James Brokenshire that employers who give jobs to illegal migrants will feel the “full force” of the government machine, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“It’s important that the government cracks down on health and safety abuses and workplace exploitation; but cuts to the Health and Safety Executive and restrictions on workers' rights to strike show that the government is saying one thing and doing another.

“If the government really wants to tackle the issue of increasing migration, they must work with unions, employers and our European partners to address exploitation and undercutting across the board, and tackle bad bosses as well as people traffickers.”
