This government consultation invited views on plans to make it a criminal offence to deliver poor quality training under the Apprenticeship brand. The TUC response welcomed the proposal, saying that it should go some way to deterring unscrupulous providers from setting up poor quality training programmes. However, the submission emphasised that this should be an initial step in a continuous drive to improve the quality of Apprenticeships and it disagreed with the proposal in the consultation that employers who fully fund their own apprenticeships should be outside the scope of the offence.
