Commenting on today’s (Wednesday) announcement of more than 1,300 job losses at Bombardier in Belfast and Derby, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“Today’s announcement is a harsh blow. The last thing the UK needs is further damage to a manufacturing industry already in recession.
“If the government had made the right choices with strong investment in skills, infrastructure and innovation, manufacturing would be in a much better position.
“Britain desperately needs a real industrial strategy that gets manufacturing working again, and I will raise this with the EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström at our meeting in Brussels today.”
