What's on at Young Workers Conference

This year TUC Young Worker’s conference 27-28 March 2021 is going online

This year’s schedule is packed full of inspirational speakers, thought-provoking discussions and engaging workshops.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit young workers hard. Existing workplace inequalities are being worsened, and job opportunities lost. We’ve seen through redundancies and the fall in employment, that young people are paying the price of the pandemic. But trade unions have had success in protecting jobs and have set out what can be done to keep people safe at work in the face of the pandemic.

Why you should join us

This conference will be an opportunity to discuss these important issues, look back and what we have done and look to the future.

In a post-Brexit Britain, with an economic downturn, we need young workers, in trade unions, standing together and demanding decent jobs, security and pay.

The programme includes:

Debates on the impact of Covid-19 on young workers and mental health, hearing the voices of young trade unionists about why this matters and what we can do
Panel discussion on stopping mass unemployment with Paul Fleming, Equity General Secretary, Alex Collinson, TUC Analysis and Research officer and Amy Doyley, TUC Young Workers Forum and Musician's Union
Keynote speeches including from Frances O’Grady, General Secretary, TUC and Charlotte Nichols MP

All other conference content will be dealt with by an additional meeting(s) of the committee , which will not be broadcast. In particular: all motions, emergency motions and elections will be taken there. Unions will receive details.

Why we decided to move online

In light of ongoing restrictions on in-person gatherings as a result of the Covid, the TUC general council, in consultation with the committees, decided to hold the statutory conferences online and in a shortened and more structured format. This allows us to welcome many more trade unionists to the event than we could usually fit into a conference centre, and ensures we can still debate the trade union movement’s response to the pandemic and other important issues
