Everyone deserves the opportunity to get on at work and make the most of their talents. But there’s still a long way to go before disabled people have equality at work.

As a rep, you can help to break down barriers that disabled workers face. Some will be visible, like offices that aren’t accessible to wheelchair users, while others are invisible, like the stigma attached to mental health conditions.

To support disabled workers reps must first understand the issues involved, such as the distinction between disability-related absence and sick leave.

As unions, we can also work with employers to make the workplace fairer and more accessible for everyone.
