The Conference elects a committee. In order to help achieve diversity, the committee currently has four sections: a section (14 seats) open to all, and separate sections (one seat each) for women, black and LGBT representatives. Unions may nominate one candidate to each section. In addition, members of the TUC General Council may opt to serve as full members of the committee. One of these will be the member elected at TUC Congress to the General Council seat for a representative of disabled trade unionists.
The role of the committee, which meets five times a year, is to oversee implementation of the motions carried at conference and to advise the TUC on its work and policy on disability. The committee currently elects two co-chairs, one of whom must be a member of the TUC General Council. The committee reports to the General Council via its minutes and through the participation of the committee co-chair.
The Committee elected at the 2014 conference consisted of:
The General Council members are Seán McGovern (co-chair, General Council lead), Manuel Cortes and Malcolm Sage.
