Commenting on today’s (Monday) report by the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission which warns that the UK’s poorest are being left behind, the TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“The report rightly highlights that in-work poverty is a significant and growing problem in the UK. It makes clear that if we want to improve social mobility we need to see both fair pay rises and a strong social security safety net.
“The current government’s approach to child poverty has failed. A drastic rethink is needed as the threat of a “permanently divided society” is too serious to ignore.
"This is a rich report and its warnings must not go unheeded by ministers.”
