“Workers in the UK put in billions of hours of unpaid overtime every year. Whether royalists or republicans, they have earned a day off.

“We have fewer public holidays than the rest of Europe. Only Romania gets less of a break.

“Britain deserves more bank holidays – and not just for next year’s royal wedding.”
