The South West TUC is calling on all MPs in the South West region to support moves in Parliament to rule out a so-called ‘no-deal’ Brexit.

Nigel Costley, Regional Secretary of the TUC in the South West said:

“The consequences of leaving the EU without a deal would be devastating. It would mean job losses, falling wages, and rising prices across the South West.”

“The West of England is home to businesses in key sectors such as advanced high-technologies and engineering. Not only are these South West businesses global leaders in their field, but they also employ thousands of workers whose jobs and livelihoods are at stake. And this morning, we heard yet again from leading Brexiteers who dismissed how badly sectors such as agriculture, and food and drink would be affected.”

“Health and social care services are already under huge pressures. A crash-out of the EU would risk critical staffing levels. We would face chaos at our ports and shortages in food and medical supplies. And it would put hard-won workers’ rights at risk.”

“The TUC will support any democratic initiative to stop a disastrous no-deal.”

“The current government’s attempt to prorogue Parliament and shut down democratic debate is reckless and divisive.

"We urge all MPs in the South West to consider the best interests of their constituents, and do all they can to prevent crashing our economy through a sudden no-deal exit from the EU."
