Commenting on the ILO (International Labour Organisation) move to pass new international standards on protecting people in work, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“People at work should be safe from violence and harassment.

“The agreement is a crucial step forward to guarantee basic protections throughout the world of work.

“The government should take the lead on this and ratify it as soon as possible – to ensure that every worker is protected.”

Editors note

- The convention protects all groups who are at risk of violence, prompting a burden on governments to legislate to protect anyone who is vulnerable.

- This is the first convention agreed at the ILO since 2011, in the ILO’s 100th year.
