Sexual harassment has no place in the workplace #ThisIsNotWorking

Every day, people across the UK are sexually harassed at work. Our current laws put the onus on individuals to report such incidents but 4 out of 5 don’t feel able to their employer. #ThisIsNotWorking
Our objectives

We call on the government to take immediate action. We demand a new, easily enforceable legal duty requiring employers to take all reasonable steps to protect workers from sexual harassment and victimisation.

We demand:

  • Compulsory guidance to explain exactly what employers need to do to prevent harassment – things like mandatory training
  • Ability to report anonymously to the regulator, bypassing toxic workplace environments that leave victims unable to speak out
  • Consequences for employers who don’t comply with the measures, making sure the onus lies with employers and not with the victim.

"The law needs to change to keep workers safe from third party harassment" -  Bec Shale, Usdaw

Managers didn’t seem to care. A lot of them laugh it off because they see it as a joke. Within two years, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been harassed.

It should not be down to the individual to prevent and manage their harassment alone.

We believe, just like health and safety measures protect us from risks to our wellbeing, employers need to protect us from harassment, whether it comes from a colleague or from a third party such as a client, customer, or patient.
