Get your placards ready! Top tips

Now's the time to get creative. Whether it's homemade placards or simple cardboard signs with a powerful message, we want to see them proudly held high at the march on 18 June.

We’d love to see what you’re bringing along on the day. Share your designs on Twitter or Instagram with #DeserveBetter, or upload your photo. We’ve got three campaign hoodies to give away to our favourites.

Top tips

  • Use a A3 sized card or bigger. The thicker the card the better.
  • Double sided will double the impact. Let people see your message from both sides.
  • Keep it simple. Have a clear message. 3-5 words is best.
  • Be eye catching. Use bright colours, clear text, effective images/graphics.
  • Make an impact. Be serious or be hilarious, just don’t be mild!

Photographer Jess Hurd specialises in covering protest and activism. She’s had photos of union demonstrations published across the media and she'll be joining us on June 18 too, capturing compelling images from the march and rally.

She knows a lot about what really stands out at a big protest, and has put together some of her favourite examples of creative and personal placards. Find out how your design could make the front pages.

Labour Party Graphic Designers are a group of volunteers who pool their design skills to create work on topical campaign issues. They’ve made 19 poster designs about the cost of living crisis, which you can use directly, or find inspiration for your own work. We’ve picked some of our favourites and asked their designers how they came up with the ideas.
