Overview

An introduction to campaigning for insourcing. Hear from trade union organisers who have led insourcing campaigns about their experiences: they will share their successes but also the challenges and setbacks their campaigns encountered.

We will also look at a model framework and the key elements to a strong, sustainable campaign that wins for outsourced members and builds union strength.

This webinar is for union officials and activists who organise with outsourced workers. No prior knowledge is required. Attendees with experience of campaigning for insourcing will have the opportunity to share their experience.

The webinar will focus on the campaigns where staff are already outsourced and the aim is to secure insourcing from the contracting employer. However, it will still be relevant where currently 'in house' staff are under threat of being outsourced.

Webinar will cover

  • The five phases of a model insourcing campaign
  • Establishing a clear picture of outsourced contracts
  • Building union strength in the contractor and mobilising the workforce behind the campaign
  • Assembling a clear set of arguments and targeting them on the full range of possible allies
  • The challenges of organising with outsourced workers and how to overcome them

Confirmed speakers

  • Ezequiel Kramer on the UNISON campaign at King’s College London that won secured the insourcing of over 400 cleaning and security staff
  • Alex Etches on the GMB campaign at Croydon Hospital that won a 24% pay rise for outsourced workers

This webinar is part of the Our Work Matters campaign, a collaborative joint union campaign led by members of trade unions who represent outsourced workers and supported by the TUC.

Will you take action for fair pay, secure contracts and respect for outsourced workers? We need workers and supporters to work together to build this campaign.
