Every year on April 28th, the trade union movement unites to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day.
Join trade unionists from across the region to remember our lost workers and discuss how we continue to fight for the health and safety of working people.
We will be hearing from:
Barbara Plant, GMB National President – Health and safety and Workers' Memorial Day
Hilda Palmer, Hazards Campaign – Covid and the fundamental right of health and safety at work
Karl Wager, North East Region Health and Safety Official, FBU – Cancer: the link between firefighting and toxic contaminants
Rolf Gehring, European Federation of Building and Woodworkers – The formal recognition of occupational diseases as a workers' right
Claire McLaren, Assistant Director of Corporate Services, Hartlepool Borough Council – A well workforce; supporting employee wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic
The event will be chaired by Edwin Jeffries, Chair of the TUC Northern Health and Safety Forum.
