Government must do more to support affordable childcare, says TUC

Commenting on today's (Tuesday) report on affordable childcare - published by the Department for Education - TUC General Secretary Frances O'Grady said:

'While we welcome the government's efforts to tackle the lack of affordable childcare this report simply does not go far enough. It does not call for any additional funding to support working parents and doesn't even discuss what role employers can take to help out.

'In addition, there are no recommendations for dealing with the specific issues around lack of provision for the parents of disabled children. This report is a missed opportunity'
