embargo: Immediate release
Attention: Industrial, economics and womens correspondents
Welcoming the publication of the Women and Work Commission's interim report today (Tuesday) TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:
'The Women and Work Commission has done a fine job in setting out the obstacles to equal pay that women face. Despite real progress, years of campaigning have not eradicated the gap between men and womens pay. The Commission has set a bold challenge to policy makers, which they will set out in detail in their final report, and I therefore welcome the Secretary of State's recognition that further action is required. Britain's unions will continue to play our part in the campaign to win equal pay for women.'
