TUC welcomes government plans to tackle tax avoidance

Commenting on the government's announcement today (Monday) that it is considering the introduction of a general anti-avoidance rule to tackle tax avoidance, TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:

'At a time of severe austerity it is common sense that everyone pays the tax owed, no matter how wealthy an individual or a company.

'The government's confirmation that they will consider establishing a rule that will make tax avoidance far harder is very welcome. If we really are all in this together then this is surely the least that can be expected.'
