Commenting on the publication today (Tuesday) of construction survey data from Markit, which show declining construction activity both before and after the Brexit vote, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Construction activity was weak in the run up to the referendum, and the risk to the sector has been intensified by the Brexit vote. The new industrial strategy cabinet committee must set out urgent actions to deal with weakening manufacturing and construction activity.

“Workers must not pay the price of the vote to leave the EU. A return to stronger growth will be helped if the government gives the go-ahead for a third runway at Heathrow, brings forward major new infrastructure projects like high-speed rail and announces a big expansion in housebuilding.”
