Responding to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published today (Wednesday), which show productivity is 1.3 per cent higher than the same quarter last year, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Today’s rise is welcome, but it follows five wasted years with productivity still 16 per cent below its pre-recession trend.

“We must keep productivity rising. We need an economy that generates more wealth per working hour, with strong and sustainable pay rises for each worker.

“Maintaining productivity growth will need investment in skills, innovation and infrastructure rather than extreme public service cuts.”
