Commenting on the government’s announcement today (Wednesday) giving details of the membership of the external advisory group that will support the 2017 review into automatic pension enrolment, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Automatic enrolment has been one of the great pension policy successes of recent years. We welcome the wide range of representation on the panel looking at how to build on its achievement.

“There are many important issues for the review to grapple with. Millions of low-paid workers are still excluded, most of them women. The self-employed miss out entirely. And contribution rates are not yet adequate for a decent standard of living in retirement.

“We look forward to contributing to this review. The key to its success will be the establishment of a fresh consensus on how to support workers in saving for their old age.”
