The TUC's annual pay bargaining conference, organised with Incomes Data Research, benefits from decades of experience in analysing pay and employment. The conference looked at key issues negotiators need to be aware of including whether pay bargaining is viable under this government; is public sector pay sustainable, and how will the minimum wage supplement affect low-paid workers. It was chaired by Gail Cartmail, Assistant General Secretary of Unite and sessions included the following:

• The new 'National Living Wage' - Tim Butcher, Chief Economist, Low Pay Commission

• What the official earnings figures show - Alastair Hatchett, Visiting Fellow, Greenwich University
• Public sector pay policy - Stephen Bach, Professor of Employment Relations, King's College London
• Seven-day working in the NHS - Jon Skewes, Director of Policy and Employment Relations, RCM
• Tax credits and the interaction between pay and welfare - Nicola Smith, Head of Economic and Social Affairs, TUC
• The legal position on holiday pay - Camilla Belich, Legal Officer, UNISON
