Speaking ahead of the New Path 4 Europe demonstration in Brussels today (Friday), TUC General Council spokesperson on Europe, and CWU General Secretary, Billy Hayes said:
"In all the sound and fury of the Clegg-Farage debate this week, there was nothing for working people. Both were against the ‘red tape’ that means paid holidays and health and safety for people at work, and there was nothing about fairer pay or protecting public services.
"Trade unions all over Europe are campaigning for more and better jobs, a greener, safer future, and equality and fairness for all. Our 'new path for Europe' will create 11 million new jobs and end the scandal of zero-hours contracts and agency work loopholes.
"Every time the Prime Minister says he wants to repatriate powers from Europe working people shouldn't be in any doubt he intends to take away our rights at work. We want a people's Europe, not a bankers' and bosses' Europe."
