Commenting on the government’s announcement today (Wednesday) of cuts to support for rooftop solar energy – on the same day as the Met Office says 2016 will be the hottest on record – TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“It beggars belief that the government is cutting support for a successful, proven and popular zero-carbon energy source on the same day the Met Office say it’s been the hottest year on record – and when extreme weather events have just flooded so many British people out of their homes.

“This is not only about protecting the planet for future generations, it is about protecting jobs today, and making sure that the UK is investing in the most important industries of the future.

“Coming hot on the heels of the government’s decision to cut funding for Carbon Capture and Storage, it shows that the Chancellor’s claim to have a serious and sustainable industrial strategy is a complete sham.”
