Unemployment in Yorkshire and the Humber rose by 24,000 in the three months to April, official figures have revealed.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that a total of 185,000 people were unemployed in the region between February and April.
The region's unemployment rate was 6.9%. The increase was the highest in the UK.
TUC Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Secretary Bill Adams said:
"despite the claims of a growing recovery, these results show that the regional employment market is still fragile despite the welcome national reduction in unemployment. More investment to create decent jobs across the region must be a priority in the July budget."
