embargo: For Immediate Release

Commenting on the job losses at Bombardier which will see around 270 job losses at Bombardier’s Derby plant, Lee Barron, Midlands TUC Regional Secretary, said:

“The announcement today that Bombardier will shed around 270 jobs in Derby is a real blow for manufacturing in the Midlands.

“We have been championing the need for investment in skills, infrastructure and innovation that would boost our manufacturing sector which is so crucial to Derby and the Midlands as a whole, but the Government have singularly failed to support this sector.

“We need the Government to have a pro-active industrial strategy and to work with employers and unions to give the support that is desperately needed to secure and increase manufacturing jobs in the Midlands.”
