Midlands TUC comments on the latest Office of National Statistic figures and the quarterly inflation report from the Bank of England

Commenting on the latest Office of National Statistic figures and the quarterly inflation report from the Bank of England, Midlands TUC Regional Secretary, Lee Barron said:

“Any fall in unemployment is to be welcomed in the East and West Midlands particularly amoungst young people, but we fear the jobs being created are low paid, insecure and could lead to a recovery being built on sand.

“Working people across the East and West Midlands are on average £1600 per year worse off and with the economic results showing that earning are rising at the slowest rate since records began in 2001, lagging way behind inflation.

Working people are not feeling the benefits of  recovery and it is now time to say that working people in the East and West Midlands as well as Britain need a pay rise”
