Trade Union Membership Up in Yorkshire and the Humber Region

Issue date

Commenting on the latest annual Trade Union membership statistics, published today (03 June 2015) by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, TUC Regional Secretary Bill Adams said:

Trade Union membership has increased across the Yorkshire and the Humber region from 584,000 to 631,000 in the last year; an increase of 47,000. This represents 29.3% of the total workforce now in union membership.

It's good to see that trade union membership is as valued as ever, with the number of new members increasing in some sectors. Trade Union membership in the private sector has risen for the fourth consecutive year. The TUC family has itself expanded in the past year, with the National Association of Headteachers (NAHT) joining the ranks plus the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) seeking affiliation.
