This Monday, 14th December, marks the fourth annual national Postal Workers Day, celebrating the hard work and dedication of hundreds of thousands of women and men who collect, sort and deliver letters, parcels and packets for everyone everywhere.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) want to use the day to get the general public to thank their hardworking postie, either in person, or using social media and joining the many who will tweet their messages of support using the hashtag #PeoplesPost.

Events across the region are planned, with many local councillors and MP’s pledging to show their support and some visiting their local sorting office to thank staff.

Carl Webb, Regional Secretary of the CWU, said:

"The day’s events celebrate the hard work of postal workers, acknowledge the critical role they play in our local communities and give them the thanks and recognition they deserve delivering the People’s Post".

"Six days a week, 52 weeks a year, in heat waves, rain and snow your local Posties deliver letters, parcels and packets to every household and business in the country".

Use #PeoplesPost online to thank your local postie.... or if you bump into them just say thanks!

"For less than the price of a cup of tea you can post a letter in Cornwall today and have it arrive in Scotland tomorrow. It’s a wonderful human and logistical effort that should be celebrated and protected".
