Overview

Help us build and empower a movement of young workers this year

2019 is the Year of Young Workers, and we’ve got big plans. This summer we’ll run our flagship Summer Patrol pilot project, as well as develop our work reaching out to and organising migrant and asylum seeker groups.

Join us on our April training weekend to help shape our plans and prepare for our campaigning activities.

The aim of the weekend is to build a network of solidarity and collaboration between young trade unionists across the movement. We’ll explore common issues of access, activism, campaigning and union democracy.

We’ll develop campaigns & projects around those themes that will help us build and empower a movement of young workers over the coming year.

A TUC training weekend for young trade unionists. On the agenda:

  • training volunteers for our Summer Patrol pilot (reaching out to young, unorganised workers)
  • Digital campaigning: be part of our peer-to-peer texting pilot to organise more young workers
  • Reaching out to schools, migrants and asylum seeker communities: Developing our Worker's Centre programme in Yorkshire
  • Will include: Building a community movement – the example of Amazon in New York
  • Union access and democracy: how to build a young activists’ movement
  • Beating apathy workshop - how to build power: a LaborNotes workshop from their bestselling "Secrets of a Successful Organiser"
