date: 6 February 2004 embargo: For immediate release |
Commenting on the tragic deaths of workers in Morecambe Bay, TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:
'This is not just a terrible tragedy but a crime. Whatever the legal status of these workers, they should not have been working in such dangerous, unsupervised conditions. The full force of the law must be brought against those responsible for their deaths. This incident provides a rare glimpse into the dangerous and exploitative conditions faced by many migrant workers on a daily basis.'
