embargo: immediate release
Nick Brown MP joined TUC Regional Secretary, Kevin Rowan, to present Unionlearn Quality Awards to PCS Union Learning Reps from the Pensions Service at Tyneview Park and the HMRC at Benton Park View.
The awards, for Information Advice and Guidance, are the latest in a series of achievements for the PCS team, enabling hundreds of workers in both sites to participate in learning from skills for life to higher level skills.
The ULRs were joined by learners from the site who explained what a tremendous difference the PCS Union Learning Reps had made to enabling, encouraging and supporting them to participate in learning.
Kevin Rowan, TUC Regional Secretary: said: 'It's an immense pleasure and a privilege to be able to recognise the hard work and excellent quality that is provided by union learning reps to members and to celebrate their considerable achievements in supporting people to participate in learning and skills development. The reps in the Pensions Service at Tyneview Park View and at the HMRC in Benton Park View are a credit to PCS and the whole trade union movement.'
Nick Brown, MP for Newcastle East said: 'Self-reliance, a respect for education and a hunger for learning and knowledge amongst working people were founding themes of the early trade union movement and the Labour Party. To find this same energy and commitment channelled today through the Unionlearn programmes is really encouraging. These projects are tremendous value for everyone involved and I congratulate the regional TUC and the staff at Benton Park View and Tyneview Park for their latest achievement.'
