The TUC is taking part in a project led by the Italian trade union confederation, CISL, to produce a Green Delegates Guide for Europe. It's aimed at local workplace representatives and their trade union officials, and sets out to improve trade union engagement in the development and implementation of environmental policy and strategies for sustainable development across the EU. CISL has secured funding from the European Union to develop a Trade Unions' Green Delegates for the Europe 2020 Objectives project, and has invited the TUC to take part.
The aim of the project is to bring together examples of successful good practice where unions have taken on climate change and environmental issues. But it also aims to address a lack of knowledge around environmental issues in the European trade union movement. The project, which runs until August 2012, will bring together trade unionists from Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece and the United Kingdom, along with the ETUC. Read project report.
