Issue date

The Midlands TUC Young Workers Forum held their first public event with a debate at Chesterfield College held during both Living Wage Week and in support of Young Workers Month.. The workers were joined by the local NUS reps at the College, Lee Barron the Mids TUC Regional Secretary and Chris Williamson MP for a wide ranging debate.

The Young Workers Forum have pledged to campaign on:

- votes at 16

- A Living Wage for all

- Better rights at work

- Affordable housing

Around thirty young students joined the debate and provided thoughtful contributions about the world of work from a students perspective with much discussion about the importance of unions being the only means by which individual rights can be collectively enforced. The Young Workers Network will continue to be a campaigning group and are already planning to hold a campaign stall in Hucknall on 13th Decmber in support of the TUC's Decent Jobs Week.
